Enman No Tomo

Enman No Tomo takes place on the first Saturday of each month from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. in the Memorial Hall. (Meetings are not held in the months of January and July.)

Enman No Tomo was established in February, 1984 after a conference on aging sponsored by the JACL and the Enmanji Buddhist Temple during which a need for a place for the Japanese-speaking elders to meet for socializing was determined.

Participants:

The program is for seniors of 55 years of age and over. It is open to all groups of people, although participants are predominantly of Japanese ethnic backgrounds. The program has been evolving over the years when initially it was established for the Japanese-speaking population. It is now mostly made up of the older Nisei and Sansei population. We have also attracted those people from Japan who have emigrated in the last 20 to 30 years.

Activities:

The monthly program includes exercises, activities such as arts and crafts and bingo, musical performances, and speakers on various topics pertinent to the members. Lunch is usually potluck with supplements by Enman no Tomo. The participants enjoy socializing with each other over lunch. Occasionally we plan day trips for our members in addition to the monthly meetings. The organization sponsors seminars on issues and concerns relating to aging.
